Trigalight Technology

Trigalight Technology

Trigalights offer a secure, dependable, and cost-effective solution for continuous illumination over an extended service life. They operate reliably regardless of environmental conditions, including weather, temperature, altitude, or humidity.

Used as versatile visual markers, they help users locate equipment, paths, and key positions in low-light environments. With multiple colour options available, they can also be used to assign different functions or identifiers.

Trigalights are manufactured in Bern, Switzerland by MB Microtec AG, the original developer and global leader in Gaseous Tritium Light Source (GTLS) technology.

Key Advantages

  • Exceptional reliability, particularly in harsh environments
  • No requirement for batteries, charging, or external power
  • Low-level luminance that does not disrupt night vision
  • No switches or moving parts
  • Maintenance-free with no need for spare parts
  • Multiple colour options for clear visual differentiation

How It Works

Trigalights use radioluminescent technology to emit light continuously without the need for charging or activation. Unlike photoluminescent or chemiluminescent alternatives, they remain visible even after extended periods in complete darkness.

Each unit consists of three main components: tritium gas, phosphor, and a sealed borosilicate glass capsule. As the tritium undergoes natural radioactive decay, it emits low-energy beta particles. These interact with the phosphor coating inside the capsule, producing a constant, visible light.

The emitted light passes through the glass, providing practical illumination. By adjusting the phosphor composition, different wavelengths can be produced, resulting in a range of colours including green, yellow, orange, red, blue, white, ice blue, purple, and pink.

Why It Matters

Because this technology does not rely on electrical power, it requires no monitoring, battery replacement, or maintenance. It provides consistent, long-term illumination, making it ideal for applications where reliable, always-on visibility is essential.
